Mt Magazine - Jun 5-8, 2003

Mt Magazine State Park, Arkansas
Day 1 - Getting There
Paulo (paulo919), Craig (RRainman) and Chuck (Six Pipes) met at my place in the morning and we headed out.

Not all that interesting of a ride, just get from Dallas to Arkansas. We did take some less-traveled roads so it was still fun.

This was Paulo's first long ride (over 300 miles) and he was so impressed by how efficient we rode, short gas stops, identifying obstacles on the road and covering distance that a short time later he rode his Honda 919 from Fort Worth to Seattle and down the coast of California... yep, he's hooked.

Paulo and Craig split once we got near the State Park as they were headed to Ozark, AR to get a hotel room. Chuck and I kept going, taking some cool backroads to the park. On the way, an eagle or hawk of some kind swooped down right next to me to take a mouse from the shoulder, Chuck said it was cool looking and thought it was coming after me at first...

We got to Mt Magazine State Park and Steve and Rick were there waiting on us and setting up their tents.

Day 2 - Touring Arkansas

The morning started off a little foggy.

But it burned off quickly..

Several others showed up at the hotel in Ozark, I can't even remember everyone since I'm doing this a while after the trip.

However, we quickly hit the road to see what Arkansas had to offer.

A visit to Arkansas isn't the same without riding hwy 341 (Push Mtn Road). I believe this is the first time Rick found out you can scrape the bags on a GS

Day 3 - Getting Home

Today, we just concentrated on getting back home but with a minor detour via the Talimena Scenic Drive between Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Here are the rest of my pics.
