This ride started out as a veryplanned and pre-organized
event with lots of informational
packets and material.
Unfortunately,
plans sometimes change.
Everything started out well, I left Wednesday and went to my parents place near Talihina Oklahoma, Blink came up later that night.
Hondo and David met NightRider and kingwing and headed for Longview. Chief and Beep also left a little later.
10/20 - Talimena Drive Scenic Byway/Hot Springs
Thursday morning, while Blink and I were riding ATVs around my parents place and helping feed a 3 day old calve, those that were in Longview were heading for Talihina. Around 10 am Blink and I went to Talihina (10 miles away) to meet up with everyone. They were a little behind schedule but they showed up. I think that's when I found out RRainman had a mishap on a oil spot at a gas station. The details are posted in a link below.
We had 2 Blue Wings, 2 BMW K1200S's, 1 Valk and 2 BMW GS's. Blink spotted Buzz at a gas station and went to get him, purely by accident, he didn't think we would be there that late so everything was running well.
We had a nice greasy lunch then hit the Talimena Drive Scenic Byway.
After the Talimena Drive everyone headed for the Howards Johnson's in Hot Springs and Buzz, Blink and myself set up camp at the Quachita State Park. Then, we headed back to the hotel to meet up with everyone at the hotel then to a seafood place for dinner.
10/21 - Hwy 7/Hwy 23 (Pig Trail Scenic Byway)/ West Plains, MO
We all met up at Hot Springs Villiage to begin the ride, everyone but David and Hondo showed up. Hondo's knee was acting up so they had decided to head back to Houston (we sure hope you feel better soon). Well, Hondo did provide a great packet of color coded maps and information. It was also left in Longview the previous morning. This was the part of the 'NO' Ride that dealt with 'No Idea Where We Were Going'. Anyway, we had breakfast in Russellville and then decided to go to Ozark and hit Hwy 23 (Pig Trail Scenic Byway) then hit Hwy 7 the next day on the way back from Missouri. There were actually some colors on Hwy 23 and it was that area actually had more color than we expected.
We ended up at West Plains, MO at the Best Western. Blink, Buzz and I left to find one of the may state parks in the area but all of them were closed or did not have any tent camping. We went down 10 miles of dirt road to find one of them, passing hunters (maybe?) with guns and flashlights. Buzz gave up and headed back to the hotel and Blink and I gave up shortly after that. Sometimes, you have to know when to give up.
10/22 - Hwy 341 (Push Mtn Road)/Hwy 16/Hwy 7/Hot Springs
The morning started off cool in the high 40's but you could tell it was gonna be a great day. We headed off to Hwy 341 (Push Mtn Road) then to Hwy 16 and Hwy 7 to Hot Springs. There we met up with LL and Candice.
Then, we headed off to a Pizza joint to watch Game 1 of the World Series.
I can't even begin to describe ALL the antics that transpired during this trip but over the coming days/weeks I'm sure some of them will come up in posts.
