Jackpine Savage Event 10/9-11

The Jackpine Savage Event
Klondike State Park, MO

This event started in memory
of David Kruger. I think he
would be proud so many friends
gather in his honor.

Thu - Oct 8th
I left work and headed towards SE Oklahoma. I planned on taking this chance to visit with my mom again. It was 85 degrees but when I got there she said there were tornado warnings. Nothing new for Oklahoma so you just keep the TV on and watch the weather.

Fri - Oct 9th
I got up at about 3:30. Mom woke me saying my bike's lights were on. Well, it was so humid and then the cold front and pouring rain came through and the switches I had on my handlebar for my camping lights got wet and were staying on. I just had to play with the switches and it cleared them up.

I took a look at the weather radar and compared the storm path to my intended route - they were the same!

I geared up and headed out about 6:30am. It was pouring and pretty much would be that way for 350 of the 400 mile day. It was also about 44 degrees.

I made it to the campground which was a VERY nice place. There were a handful of people there already, some campers and some staying in the cabins.

As usual with these great events, people started introducing each other. I had never been to this event before so this gave me a chance to meet some people I'd never seen before.

Jeff, Tom and his wife Carol did an incredible job at bringing food, firewood and libations to this party.

Sat - Oct 10th
I had to be back at work by Monday which meant I needed to head towards home today. I stuck around long enough to mooch breakfast then I hit the road.

I rode south on MO-19.. Wow! What a great road. Then, I zig-zagged through northern Arkansas 'til I hit 23, the Pigtrail Scenic Biway. This was a 500 mile day and not much straight roads on the route. My destination was to meet up with Khris (Tankereng) at the Queen Whilemena State Park on the Talimena Scenic drive.

I ended up riding the last 90 miles in darkness and then when I hit the mountains at the Arkansas side of the biway it was 13 miles of fog so thick I could only see about 10 feet in front of me. That was a long 13 miles.. LOL

I finally met up with Khris and is friends at the campground and we had something to eat then hit the sack.

Sun - Jul 11th
This morning, it was still heavy fog. I only had just over 200 miles to get home so I was in no rush and took it easy.

Here are the rest of the Pics.
